Trading Pins Offer Many Options to Collectors

Trading pins were originally called 'press pins'...this one is from the 1968 World Series.

Trading pins are quickly becoming some of the most sought after collectibles by baseball memorabilia enthusiasts. One reason is the wide variety of options available to collectors of baseball trading pins.

While most trading pins available on the market are comprised solely of a multi-colored team logo painted on a metal backing, with a military or magnetic clutch on the back, creative embellishments to baseball trading pins are quickly gaining popularity with hobbyists.

These days, it’s not uncommon to see trading pins with spinning baseballs, trading pins with sliding bats, trading pins with dangling pennants, and some baseball trading pins with bobbling attachments at collectible shows. Today, there is a greater selection of unique baseball trading pins available from dealers and collectors than ever before.

Most of the enhancements available are based on the aesthetic lure of added motion. While standard baseball trading pins just sit there on the lapel or in the collector’s case, trading pins with danglers and bobblers catch the eye with additional shapes and images extending below the main body of the pin. As their names indicate, danglers hang loosely on chains or hooks, while bobblers are suspended on springs and bounce as the wearer moves. With their kinetic appeal and similarity to military medals, these two types of trading pins are favorites with younger collectors.
